Medhane-Alem Seattle Statement of Faith


  1. Scriptures:

    We believe in the Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments as being the verbally inspired Word of God, and completely inerrant in the original writings, and of Supreme and final authority in faith and life (II Peter 1:21, II Timothy 3:16, Romans 15:4, I Corinthians 10:11)

  2. Trinity:

    We believe in the triune God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew28:19-20, II Corinthians 13:14)

  3. God The Father

    We believe in God the Father, Almighty and eternal, creator of all things, both visible and invisible (Genesis 1:1-2, 7, I Corinthians 8:6, II Corinthians 6:18, 1Timothy 1:17)

  4. God The Son

    We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man, suffered and died for our sins on the cross, was buried, rose bodily form the dead, appeared to men, ascended into heaven, who now sits on the right hand side of the Father and intercedes for us, and who is coming again with great power and glory. (Matthew 16:16, John 20:28, I Timothy 2:5, I John 5:20, Matthew 1:23, I Corinthians 15:3-7, Acts 1:9-11, Matthew 24:30)

  5. God The Holy Spirit

    We believe in the Holy Spirit, the comforter, who inspired the prophets and apostles of old; who indwells, empowers and distributes spiritual gifts to be exercised by the believers for spiritual edification of the church, and who convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. (John 14:26, II Peter 1:21, Acts 1:8, I Corinthians 12:4-11, Ephesians 4:11-12, John 16:8)

  6. Regeneration

    We believe that man was created without sin; that by voluntarily transgression fell, and therefore all human beings are born with a sinful nature; and that all who repent of their sins and personally accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. (Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-24, Romans 5:12-19, 6:23-24, 10:9-10, John 1:12-13, 3:1-16)

  7. Water Baptism

    We believe that the ordinance of water baptism should be observed by all who have really repented and in their hearts they have truly believed in Christ as savior and Lord. In so doing, they declare to the world that they have died with Jesus and that they have also been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:16, Acts 10:47-48, Romans 6:1-4)

  8. The Lord's Supper

    We believe that the Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements, bread and that fruit of the vine, is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial of His suffering and death, and a prophecy of His coming; and is enjoined of all believers "until He comes." (2 Peter 1:4, I Corinthians 11:23-26)

  9. Holiness

    We believe that Christians are called to obey God's Word and live a holy life, bear spiritual fruit and glorify Jesus Christ (James 1:22-25, Luke 8:15, II Timothy 2:19, Hebrews 12:14, I Peter 1:15-16, Galatians 5:22-24, I John 2:6)

  10. Second Coming

    We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will come again to reign for one thousand years on earth; and the dead will be resurrected; the righteous will be separated to be with God in heaven and the unrighteous to be with the devil and his angels in everlasting punishment in hell. (Revelation 20:1-7, 19:11-14, John 3:16, Matthew 25:31-46, Revelation 20:10-15)
